We headed up north to our cabin this weekend. Our first weekend alone there in many many months. Although the area desperately needs rain, the trees are green, the lake is open, the sun feels wonderful and life is good. It's amazing how a place can speak to you. We purchased our cabin 3 1/2 years ago, the tail end of the summer of 2003. The place was nice, but not all that impressive. That first year of our occupancy, the cabin saw a lot of changes, and we hardly saw our home in Maple Grove!!! New windows, siding, flooring, bathrooms, furniture etc...... took a lot out of us and our families!
The retreat of the cabin comes from it's winding driveway, it's multitude of trees, it's hilltop view of the lake, the quiet of people and the resonance of nature. As we are possibly selling the place, I was thinking back to all of the good times we've had here in the last 3 years with family and friends. The boating, campfires, birthday and Christmas celebrations, long conversations, games of bean bag and checkers, neverending puzzles, 4wheeling for fun and for hunting morel mushrooms; overall enjoying life with the people we love to the max!
Last night we fell asleep listening to the frogs in the pond chirping all night, the loons calling to each other, and the occasional overhead boom of thunder. We currently are not wearing watches, and the alarm clock is unplugged-a very good feeling, even if it's just for a mere 36 hours. The dog is in heaven-really; and Jeff is having a hay day chopping wood, fishing off the dock, and putzing around the yard. I, am reading, soaking up the sun, and enjoying the smells of spring up north-lilac, apple blossom, freshwater, and pine! Absolutely lovely!!
